Welcome and thank you for visiting our website. Sweeney is located on the south side of Santa Fe and offers quality education to a very diverse community. Our program serves Pre-K, Kindergarten-5th Grade Students, in a 50/50 Bilingual model. The goal of the Bilingual model is to give students the opportunity to become fluent in English and Spanish. Multiple programs are offered at Sweeney such as chess club, robotics, National Dance Institute (NDI), Cooking with Kids, (to list a few) all of which encourage participation from parents and students together. After School and Extended Learning programs are also available to students. Academic Support is provided by Reading Quest, and Reading is Magic, both programs consist of highly qualified volunteer tutors in math and reading. Big Brothers Big Sisters play a valuable role along with PMS and Gerard's House in offering social and emotional support to our students. Sweeney values and honors the whole child. Extracurricular activities are also included at our school, boys' and girls' basketball, guitar classes, violin classes and cultural performances. Incoming Superintendent Chavez names 2021-2022 Leadership Team Incoming SFPS Superintendent Hilario “Larry” Chavez announced his 2021-2022 leadership team on May 18th. “As I look ahead to July 1st, I am excited to announce the 2021-2022 leadership team. Team members, with their years of experience and depth of knowledge about SFPS, are ready to hit the ground running! They are dedicated to leading with the head and the heart and with the vision that unity is strength, learning is everything and dreams are unlimited . Their impressive skills and expertise will carry the district forward while building off the foundation that’s already in place. “While many selected are new, a cadre of seasoned leaders will remain on my cabinet from Superintendent Dr. Garcia’s administration. To be clear, creating this new team did not require additional funding beyond the current budget, which reduced district positions last year,” said Mr. Chavez. Superintendent Dr. Veronica C. Garcia said, “I am thrilled to see these appointments, which reflect SFPS’ successful approach to leadership transition. Because of succession planning and leadership development over the past five years, the district will continue its forward momentum. I know from working with and nurturing these outstanding leaders that they are ready to embrace this moment of change, and I could not be prouder of them or happier for the district. Noteworthy is that three members of this team are graduates of the Santa Fe Public Schools!” Mr. Chavez’s leadership team includes the following people who were promoted from within SFPS: Vanessa Romero, newly appointed as deputy superintendent of teaching and learning. Ms. Romero is currently serving as SFPS associate superintendent. Kathy Pack Casaus, newly appointed as assistant superintendent for elementary school support. Ms. Casaus is currently serving as principal of Acequia Madre Elementary School. Michael Hagele, newly appointed as assistant superintendent for secondary school support. Mr. Hagele is currently serving as principal of Early College Opportunities (ECO) High School. Carl Marano, newly appointed as assistant superintendent for K-8 school support. Mr. Marano is currently serving as principal of Santa Fe High School (SFHS). Marc DuCharme, newly appointed as director of athletics and activities. Mr. DuCharme is currently serving as principal of Nava Elementary School. Robert Martinez newly appointed as chief financial officer (CFO). Mr. Martinez is currently serving as interim CFO. Peter McWain, newly appointed as executive director of curriculum and instruction. Mr. McWain is currently serving as assistant director of curriculum and instruction. Dr. Neal Weaver, newly appointed as chief information & strategy officer. Dr. Weaver is currently serving as executive director of digital learning. Crystal Ybarra, newly appointed as chief equity, diversity and engagement officer. Ms. Ybarra is currently serving as deputy chief equity, diversity and engagement officer. His leadership team also includes the following people who have served as leaders under Superintendent Dr. Garcia: Kristy Janda-Wagner as deputy superintendent for operations. Ms. Janda-Wagner is remaining in her current position. Cody Dynarski as public information officer. Mr. Dynarski is currently serving as social media specialist/public information officer. Josh Granata as general counsel and government relations. Mr. Granata is remaining in his current position. Sonya Gunter as chief data and analytics officer. Ms. Gunter is remaining in her current position. Howard Oechsner as executive director of human resources. Mr. Oechsner is remaining in his current position. Mario Salbidrez as executive director of school security. Mr. Salbidrez is remaining in his current position. Dr. Suchint Sarangarm, chief assessment for learning and school improvement officer. Dr. Sarangarm is remaining in his current position. Ruth Williams, deputy chief information and strategy officer. Ms. Williams is remaining in her position. Mr. Chavez also announced on May 20th that Renee Salazar-Garcia will serve as SFHS' new principal starting on July 1st. Ms. Salazar-Garcia has served as SFHS’ 11th-grade associate principal.
